South Texas Plains Region Week of May 29, 2024

Braunig

GOOD. Water stained, 88 degrees. Fishing patterns are holding steady. Redfish are fair off the bank and boat fishing shrimp, crawfish and shad trolling is slow. Catfish are being caught around rock and reed lines with cheese bait and cut shad bass are still being caught in the reeds. Report by Harry Lamb, Alamo Texas Fishing.

Calaveras

GOOD. Water slightly stained, 90 degrees. Fishing patterns remain consistent. Redfish are on good off the bank with shrimp, crawfish and being caught trolling on dark plastics and spoons. Channel catfish are being caught on rock lines. Blue catfish are being caught out on the lake on rock piles and drop offs using cut bait bass are slow. Report by Harry Lamb, Alamo Texas Fishing.

Choke Canyon

GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 29.14 feet below pool. Bass morning bite is really good on shad patterned spinnerbaits or crankbaits. Then as the sun rises switch to Texas rigs on main lake points. Report by Evan Coleman, Big Bassin Fishing. Bass are good in shallow water out to 10 feet using flukes and soft plastic worms, shad colored crankbaits. A little bit of topwater action. Catfish are good on cut bait or stink bait in 20 feet of water. Crappie are good in brush piles in 20-25 feet of water on minnows or grubs. Report by Scott Springer, Fish Choke Canyon Lake.

Corpus Christi Lake

FAIR. 70 degrees; 10.01 feet below pool. Lake levels continue to be drop. Catfish are good on wind blown shorelines with nightcrawlers and cheese bait. Drum are good on wind blown shorelines on nightcrawlers. Alligator gar are good on cut carp in the river channel. Crappie are slow. Largemouth bass are slow. Falcon

GOOD. Water stained; 75 degrees; 49.96 feet below pool. Fishing patterns are similar and the water continues to drop. The best place to launch is at the State Park off the gravel and rock points while the lake level is low. Bass are excellent with numbers being caught in 15-20 feet of water casting to shallow rocky areas with deep diving crankbaits, football jigs, and dropshots. Catfish are good with catches up to 30 pounds on muddy flats leading into the river channel in 3-10 feet of water with fresh cut bait on a santee rig or Kentucky rig to keep the bait out of the mud. Keeper catfish are good using small shad or shrimp fished in 12-25 feet of water on deep structure in the river channel. Crappie are slow. Bowfishing for gar is excellent with numerous catches over 7 feet on the south end. Rod and reel anglers are catching gar up to 3 feet with cut carp and tilapia. Report by Ram Reyes, Ram Outdoors.

Texana

FAIR. Water stained; 75 degrees; 1.33 feet below pool. Fishing patterns remain similar. Bass and bass are fair north of the U.S. Route 59. Catfish are fair throughout the lake.
