Louis Elon Baker – Obituary and Assessment Call

Louis Elon BakerLouis Elon Baker, 78, of Canyon died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in University Church of Christ with David Lough, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Louis Elon Baker was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Granger to Roy and Leona Robbins Baker. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University and served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He married Lou French on Dec. 8, 1956, in San Marcos, and they moved to Canyon in 1968. He was employed for 33 years by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, first serving as a game warden at Menard County and then as park superintendent at Palo Duro Canyon State Park for 25 years.

He was a member of Canyon Lions Club, Canyon City Lodge AF&AM, Khiva Shrine Temple, Lubbock Scottish Rite Bodies and University Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rubie Lee Baker Hoes.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Baker; two sons, Harley Baker and wife Darla and Barry Baker and wife Cindy, all of Canyon; a brother, Robert Roy Baker of Austin; a granddaughter, Becky Baker of Canyon; a great-niece, Dakota Horner of Canyon; four nephews; and two nieces.

The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. Box 7748, Amarillo, TX 79114

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association (TPWD Mutual Association) regrets to inform you of the death of another of our members, Louis Elon Baker .

Mr. Baker became a member of the TPWD Mutual Association on February 22, 1967. He retained his membership up until his death on December 20, 2008.

Additional information on Mr. Baker is on the reverse side of this assessment letter.

A check in the amount of $5,325.00 was mailed to Mrs. Baker, on December 23, 2008.

An assessment in the amount of $16.00 will be necessary to bring the policy fund back into balance to have payments on hand for two members in case of death. Please make this payment by January 23, 2009.
