Briefing
Wyler Aerial Tramway
Franklin Mountains State Park
April 2001

I. Discussion: Following a formal reception and a VIP preview and luncheon, The Wyler Aerial Tramway and Karl O. Wyler Observatory on Ranger Peak in Franklin Mountains State Park, El Paso opened to the public on March 10, 2001. The event drew attendance from local elected officials, State Senator Shapleigh, State Representative Haggerty and numerous business and civic leaders.

Opening day drew rider ship of 400 and the park store recorded sales in excess of $2700. Broadcasts from major television networks in El Paso and Juarez provided live media coverage the entire week prior to opening. Statewide newspaper coverage before and on the day following has aided in drawing visitors to the sight. Unsolicited public comments were superlative with many indicating they would return for future visits and bring guests.
