Commission Agenda Item No. 5
Briefing
Ducks Unlimited Partnership
May 2005

I. Executive Summary: This item will present an overview of the Ducks Unlimited program, with emphasis on activities within the Central Flyway and Texas in particular.

II. Discussion: The mission of Ducks Unlimited (DU) is to fulfill the annual life-cycle needs of North American waterfowl by protecting, enhancing, restoring, and managing important wetlands and associated uplands on breeding grounds, something DU has been doing in a growing way since the Dust Bowl era of the 1930's when so much wetland habitat was destroyed. DU representatives are here today to brief the Commission on the achievements made on the breeding grounds and how our joint partnership for wetland restoration in Texas and Canada are building critical habitat for the future. The Texas CARE Initiative, started four years ago, is helping advance wetland habitat restoration in Texas, and DU wants to discuss plans for the years ahead.
