Action
Acceptance of Land Donation – Bexar County
Approximately 22 Acres at Government Canyon State Natural Area
January 22, 2015

I. Executive Summary: The owner of a 32-acre inholding at Government Canyon State Natural Area (SNA) has donated 22 acres of that inholding to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF), which now offers the tract to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

II. Discussion: In 2012, TPWD acquired the 461-acre MaBe Canyon Ranch for addition to the Government Canyon SNA. Within the MaBe Canyon Ranch acquisition are two (2) tracts forming a 51-acre inholding.  TPWD staff has worked with the owner of the larger tract to address access and management issues of mutual concern. The owner has recently donated 22 acres of that tract to the TPWF.  TPWF desires to transfer the subject tract to TPWD for addition to the SNA.

III. Recommendation: The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:

“The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorizes the Executive Director to accept the transfer of 22 acres in Bexar County from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation for addition to the Government Canyon State Natural Area.”
