Join people all across the country on January 1st to get outdoors and start 2015 off on the right foot! This year, Lake Casa Blanca State Park will be hosting 4 different First Day Hikes, each with a different theme, giving you a taste of each of the park's unique trails. Choose which one is right for you and your family, or come to all four!
9:00 am -11:00 am – Mesquite Bend Nature Hike – Round trip ~ 1.75 miles
On this easy to moderate hike, we'll discover some of the interesting plants and animals that live here at the park.
11:30 am– 1:00 pm – White-tail Loop Fossils Hike – Round trip ~ 1.25 miles
On this easy loop, we'll discover Lake Casa Blanca's ancient past as we hike beside a former fossil dig!
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm – Junior Ranger Hike, Osprey Hill Loop – Round trip ~ 1 mile
Kids, get a jumpstart on becoming a Texas State Parks Junior Ranger on this easy to moderate hike! We'll look for animal tracks and signs, find out how to take care of the park while we're having fun outside, and more. We'll also have a great view of the lake from the hilltop.
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm – Roadrunner Trail, “Living Beneath the bridge: Bats and Swallows” - Round trip ~2.25 miles
This easy, flat trail runs along the top of the dam, and we'll find out about some of the flying animals that make their homes beneath the Chacon Creek bridge visible below.
For all hikes: Meet at the Boat Ramp Restrooms. All ages invited (children must be accompanied by an adult). Friendly dogs on leash are welcome. Wear good walking shoes, bring drinking water and sunscreen, and dress for the weather (think layers!).
Note: Park activities are open to the public and free with park entrance fee ($4 for adults age 13 and up, children 12 and under are free). No need to register--just show up!
