Relaxed, island-style birding basics.
During the spring season, birders explore, flock, and capture data for scientists. We need your help and observations. Join Ranger Lisa and learn about the basics of birding, why Galveston island is a bird migration paradise, and how to get the most out of your park visit.
We'll spend some time on a short hike, discovering and following our feathered friends in Galveston Island State Park. Begins at the Nature Center where binoculars and a scope are available for use. Great program for families, scouts, and groups.
What to bring:
- Please get a park permit for vehicle before program
- Keen observation skills
- Binoculars (or borrow a pair from us)
- Interest in wildlife and the outdoors
ATTENTION LOCAL YOUTH: You are needed for a birding competition!
Galveston Island State Park is hosting a birding competition for families and youth on Saturday, April 29th, called the Great Texas Birding Classic. The park is requesting participation for our event: the Big Sit, taking place all day at the observation tower. Ask Ranger Lisa about this event, and prepare for fun with this great Birding 101 program.
