Meditation is a contemplative practice that spans the globe and transcends spiritual traditions. At its simplest, meditation is a deliberate practice to train the mind to view the world through an objective lens. The healthful benefits of meditation are many, including reduced stress, improved relationships, improved sleep and reduced depression and anxiety. The format for this introductory meditation class includes both seated and walking meditation. Meet at the Towash Day-Use Area.
Dr. Tom Christian of the Waco Zen Garland Sitting Group will instruct the program. Tom is a student of Roshi Paul Genki Kahn, founder and Spiritual Director of the Zen Garland Order. Genki Roshi is a successor in the lineage of Taisan Maezumi Roshi. Tom is empowered by the Zen Garland Order, as a Mentor of the Order, to convene and guide the Waco Group.
This program is part of a series called Saturday Morning Wellness on the Rocks.
The program is free for any participant who has a valid entrance permit for the day. Entrance permits are available from Park Headquarters for $5.00 per person for everyone 13 or older. Children 12 or under are free. Entrance fees are also covered by a valid Texas State Parks Pass.
