Upper Canyon Guided Hike

This is a back-country, two mile and up to a four hours hike into the secluded upper area of Seminole Canyon.

This hike includes visits to prehistoric rock art sites, historical railroad sites, and the U.S. Detachment of Seminole Negro Indian Scouts' campsite.

Start: The park staff ask you to be at Headquarters Building at 8:00 am to final any fees due, such as; registering for camping, pay park entry fee, and all participants must sign a waiver agreement, PLEASE BE READY TO LEAVE BY 8:20 A.M..

Length: 1.9 miles, non-technical descending 207 feet and climbing 207 feet, approximate 4 hours.

Difficulty: Moderately strenuous. Participants should be able to hike, clamber and climb over loose rubble/rocks, large boulders, rough uneven ground and dense vegetation: proving challenging for some.

Must have CALLED IN reservation to participate, (432) 292-4464. Reservation taken 30 days in advance and ends on the Wednesday before the tour date. Please only sign up your family members. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adult/legal guardian. Not suitable for young children (no strollers).


Limited to number of participants: 25 experienced hikers, minimum of 5

If you decide later not to attend, please call to cancel your reservation, so that we can open your spot to those on the waitlist.

**Upper Canyon fee: cash or check only (make payable to Rock Art Foundation) $12.00 per person regardless of age.

Park Entry fee: ages 13 to adult $3.00 per person

Participants bring their own: gear, water, snacks/lunch, sturdy shoes/boots. hiking stick, camera, binoculars.

A valid phone number/email is needed at time of phone-in reservations: tours are subject to cancellation/amount of water in canyon. It is recommended to call the park prior to your trip to confirm tour.
