Above the high tide mark
Supralittoral fringe
Near the top of the Gulf Coast pilings, jetties and other rocky shores lies a zone washed only by the highest tides.
Here, great colonies of lined periwinkles live where the water seldom covers the rocks. They're joined by rock lice which follow the tide up and down looking for algae and other food.
