Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife Viewing Permitted

Viewing wildlife is an enjoyable activity that is available in many of the Wildlife Management Areas of Texas.

The Atkinson Island WMA has about 90 acres of brackish marsh which attracts a variety of waterbirds, waterfowl and rails. In the spring and fall, migrating raptors and Neotropical passerines use the island. In September Humming Birds visit in large numbers. Birds reported as seen on Atkinson Island WMA are Clapper Rails, Horned Larks, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows, White-tailed Kite and Grey Catbird.
