Effects of Nutrition on Antler Development: 1974-1977 (33 deer)
In this study, a group of male fawns were placed on controlled diets and their antler production monitored for 4 years. It was determined from this study that an animals diet was an important component in antler development. The results of this study are published in the 1989 Texas Parks and Wildlife bulletin, Effects of Genetics and Nutrition on Antler Development and Body Size of White-tailed Deer(PDF 945 KB).
