Kerr WMA: Deer Research Projects
Determination of Phenotypic Characters of White-tailed Deer Through Genome Scanning
Utilizing samples from the Kerr Area herd, genomes from white-tailed bucks will be scanned to determine if certain antler characteristics can be tied to individual genes or sets of alleles. The progeny of directionally selected lines (spike line and fork line, stress study bucks) will be used to identify regions of the genome that are different and homozygous among them which will then be analyzed to determine the predictive value of specific antler characteristics or other phenotypic characters.
