The maps below were generated from data compiled from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Texas Natural Diversity Database (TXNDD). Data for these maps was extracted from a number of sources including unpublished field surveys, peer-reviewed technical publications, and final reports of grant-funded studies. There are several caveats to consider when viewing these maps:

  • Absence of data does not necessarily mean an absence of mussels. Absence could mean that watersheds haven't been surveyed, mussel data hasn't been shared with the TXNDD, or that mussels aren't located in a particular surveyed watershed.
  • Maps reflect currently entered data only. Entry and mapping of survey data for 2013 has not been completed but will be in the near future.
  • Maps do not represent the size, quality, or diversity of mussel species at any location within a watershed. A watershed with one mussel observation may still be of a high conservation value due to the size or quality of that one mussel bed.
