Caption/Information: More than 40 State Parks all across Texas are offering hikes on New Year’s Day 2012 as part of the national First Day Hikes program, encouraging people to get outdoors to enjoy healthier lifestyles and recreation opportunities in parks. Hiking was recently identified as the most popular activity on site at parks, and many state parks in Texas feature renovated and improved trail systems, such as the new boardwalk and footbridge at Palmetto State Park pictured here.
