Mini Outdoor Expo Slated for Enchanted Rock
FREDERICKSBURG – State park rangers, outdoor educators, wildlife and fisheries biologists and game wardens from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be on hand to answer questions and provide demonstrations at a mini outdoor exposition to be held Sept. 25 at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
The event, which will feature a host of outdoor and adventure activities such as flint knapping, fly-tying and a butterfly release, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Normal park entry fees apply, but all other activities are free. Persons 13 and older pay a $6 entry fee; children 12 and under get in free.
The mini expo will offer numerous fun and educational opportunities for everyone interested in outdoor adventure, Texas State Parks and the state’s cultural and natural history. A fly fishing and fly tying demonstration will be held at 10:30 and 2 p.m., a cave tour at 11 a.m. and butterfly release in the butterfly tent at 2 p.m.
Representatives from all 10 state parks in Region 7 will be attending the event. The parks are: Blanco, Colorado Bend, Enchanted Rock, Garner, Hill Country, Inks Lake, Lost Maples, Lyndon B. Johnson, Pedernales Falls and South Llano River.
Expo activities designed for youngsters include making fish prints, identifying animal tracks, skulls and furs, finding fossils and watching rope making, soap making, Dutch oven cooking and flint knapping demonstrations.
The Operation Game Thief trailer and a fire truck and sprayer will be on site for the day.
