AUSTIN — The captivating stories that fill Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine are going digital, providing users with an immersive experience through a new interactive app.

“People interact differently with print and pixels,” says magazine art director Nathan Adams. “It was important not to just replicate the print reading experience. The app has a unique design, so interactivity — like sound, touch, tap and scrub motions — is incorporated to create the ultimate user experience.”

The app is free to download and includes a free version of the Jan./Feb. 2015 issue. The Fishing Forecast will be available as an additional free download, so you can search for fishing holes in your area and learn about the vast variety of species waiting there.

“One of the most useful aspects of the app is that there’s no need for a constant internet connection,” says publisher Randy Brudnicki. “Most videos, slideshows and extras are embedded into the app, so once downloaded its functional anywhere.”

The March issue requires a subscription or purchase. Single issues can be purchased for $2.99.

New subscribers can receive both digital and print copies for $15. Current print subscribers who want to take advantage of the ‘Easter eggs’ and other extras within the app can add a digital subscription for $5. Print issues of the magazine can still be found on newsstands.

“We are presenting the content of the print magazine in a way that takes it to a different level,” says Adams. “It’s the same ingredients, but a different recipe.”

The app can be downloaded to your iPad and/or iPhone by visiting http://www.tpwmagazine.com/app/ .
