FREDERICKSBURG – It’s true what June Hershey and Don Swander wrote in the iconic Texas song, “the stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas.” Home to beautiful skies, landscapes, unique wildlife and diverse vegetation, Texas State Parks are visually appealing to both the eyes and lens.

Due to positive feedback from previous photography workshops, more will take place this summer at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a designated International Dark Sky Park.

Aspiring photographers are invited to take part in a nightscape photography workshop led by professional photographers Bud Force and Eric Schlegel. The workshop will be an overnight excursion at Enchanted Rock and will focus on the foundations of composition and exposure for capturing night images. Secure a spot at one of the workshops by visiting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department calendar.

Nightscape photography workshops are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m. June 4, July 9 and Aug. 13.

Participants will meet at the Group Pavilion for the first two hours of class, followed by a field exercise. At 6 p.m. there will be a break before heading to the rock; water bottles will be provided but be sure to bring some snacks and dinner. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are encouraged to get some rest before heading home. Materials such as cots, sleeping bags and small tents are welcomed.

Force’s work has appeared in National Geographic Adventure, Backpacker magazine, The Travel Channel and CNN, among others. Schlegel’s portfolio includes a wide-range of clients, such as National Geographic and USA Today.
