QUITAQUE— Grab your dancing shoes and head on over to Quitaque on Sept. 17 for the sixth annual Texas State Bison Music Festival.

Caprock Canyons State Park is one of the sponsors of this year’s event, which benefits the Texas State Bison Herd Restoration Project.

Home of the last remaining bison of the Great Southern Herd, Caprock Canyons State Park relies on the event to help fund restoration of the Texas State Bison Herd to its historic range at the park. The park is currently restoring more than 11,000 acres of native habitat to benefit the bison herd. The fall fundraiser also allows visitors to experience the cultural and natural history of the Texas Panhandle, which once held millions of Southern Plains Bison before unregulated commercial hunting nearly wiped them out.

The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with vendors lining Main Street. Starting at 4 p.m., festival goers will enjoy live music from Ed Montana, Kevin Deal, Zac Wilkerson, Mark Powell and headliner Robert Earl Keen.

Although Keen has toured extensively both nationally and internationally throughout his career, he has long been heralded as one of the Lone Star State’s most popular and consistently acclaimed musical ambassadors, leading to his induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.

General admission tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at the Bison Fest website. Cooler fee is $10 at the gate. Campsites are available.
