21. BFI Landfill - 9912 Giles Rd., Manor TX 78653 (512) 272-4327
Location: From the U.S. Highway 290/U.S. Highway 183 junction, go east on U.S. 290 for 3 miles to Giles Rd. Turn left (north) onto Giles Rd. and follow it for 0.3 mile. BFI is the third entrance on the left.
Habitat: Landfill. Good for gulls during winter (mostly Ring-billed Gulls, but a number of rarities have been found here, including Mew and California gull).
Facilities: None. Open Monday to Saturday; call in advance for business hours. Be sure to check in at the gate – explain you are there to watch birds. Avoid landfill activities. Also check for gulls in fields and roads near the landfills.
