The twins (cuates) referenced are the two stone and concrete water tanks (pilas) that were an important part of the distribution of scarce water to livestock pastures in the far reaches of the ranch. Los Cuates Campsite sits near the ruins of a windmill that at one time pumped water from a shallow well. Exposed to the south, the site is protected on the north by large metamorphic rock formations. For those who do not like that closed-in feeling, this site is perfect. It would be a good site for hikers and quail hunters. There is no shelter and the tent pads are open to the south wind.
