We Can Take It! The CCC in Palo Duro Canyon

Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Come learn the interesting history of the men who built Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Civilian Conservation Corps. There will be a brief presentation featuring history and pictures of the CCC structures in the park, followed by a hike down the CCC trail which was used by the CCC enrollees to get to their daily work sites.

Junior Ranger Program

Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Bring the kids out to Palo Duro Canyon to become junior rangers! They will learn about the park, its resources and why it is so important to be stewards of our natural places. They will then have the opportunity to participate in a mini service project. When completed, they will earn a custom sleeve patch!

Survival Hike

Palo Duro Canyon State Park
What would you do if you found yourself lost in a wild place like Palo Duro Canyon? Join the park’s interpreter and intern to learn some of the skills you might need to survive in the wilderness. This hike will take place on the Lower Comanche Trail, a 1.5 mile hike on mostly easy terrain. Skills discussed will include the uses of plants as food and medicine, how to find drinkable water and build a fire.

“For my part, I know nothing. But the sight of the stars makes me dream.” Come to Palo Duro Canyon to find out what Vincent Van Gogh was talking about. Local astronomy experts will be on hand to teach you about the night sky, and telescopes will be available to help you get a closer look.
