Service Description: Mapping service for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department white-tailed deer management units. The TPWD Wildlife Division has divided Texas into 44 white-tailed Deer Management Units (DMUs), which represent distinct geographical areas identified and used by TPWD to help manage the white-tailed deer population in Texas. DMUs are subsets of ecological areas with similar soils, vegetation communities, land use practices, deer population characteristics and hunting pressures. DMUs are also the scale at which TPWD monitors white-tailed deer populations by conducting surveys and collecting other information (i.e., harvest data) to estimate and evaluate the population of white-tailed deer. Survey routes are assigned per DMU, and distinct population estimates are generated for each DMU based on the results of those surveys. These data are used to make sound management decisions for the establishment of season lengths, and bag limits.
