Navigating the Trail

Trail Description

With five different access sites and a variety of options for loops, one-way trails, and more, Highland Village's 8 miles of paddling opportunities are waiting for you. Pick your path on this beautiful section of the Lake and enjoy connecting with nature for a half hour or half a day!

Pilot Knoll Loop Paddling Trail

This loop trail is a peaceful stretch near the mouth of the Poindexter Branch Creek and can be paddled either way.

Trail Length: 1.4-miles
Float Times: 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (depending on water level, route taken, time spent observing, and wind speed)
Note: Log jams and/or low water levels near Marauder Park launch may occur, restricting access.

Pilot Knoll to Sunset Point Paddling Trail

Explore the southern shoreline of the Hickory Creek arm.

Trail Length: 1.4-miles
Float Times: 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (depending on water level, route taken, time spent observing, and wind speed)
Note: Watch for motorboats; this is a heavy traffic area. Have a shuttle vehicle at your take-out.

Lakeside Park Loop Paddling Trail

Pick your path towards the cove near Sunset Point Park and back.

Trail Length: 3.4-miles
Float Times: 1.5-3 hours (depending on water level, route taken, time spent observing, and wind speed)
Note: Watch for motorboats; this is a heavy traffic area. Have a shuttle vehicle at your take-out.

Sunset Point to Lakeside Paddling Trail

Trail Length: 1.2-miles
Float Times: 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (depending on water level, route taken, time spent observing, and wind speed)

Lakeside to Copperas Branch Paddling Trail

This short half-mile paddle to Lakeside Park travels along the Lakeland Drive shoreline.

Trail Length: 0.5-mile
Float Times: 30 minutes to 1 hour (depending on water level, route taken, time spent observing, and wind speed)
Note: Watch for motorboats; this is a heavy traffic area. Have a shuttle vehicle at your take-out.

Private Property

Respect private property by not trespassing or littering and keeping noise levels down. This creek is classified as navigable, which permits public use of the streambed and, if necessary, the banks to portage any hazard. Any other use of private river banks without permission of the landowner can be considered trespassing. Under Texas Penal Code (§30.05), criminal trespass occurs when one enters property after receiving notice not to enter. Notice includes verbal notice, a fence, sign(s), purple paint on posts or trees, or the visible presence of crops grown for human consumption.

Things to Do and See

Fishing

The Hickory Creek Arm of Lewisville Lake supports numerous fishes. Small Lures such as jigs, crankbaits, plastic worms, spinnerbaits, swimbaits work best for these fish. Lewisville Lake is stocked with fish yearly consisting of Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass,, Striped Bass, Palmetto Bass, Florida Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, White Bass, and Spotted Bass.

Wildlife and Ecology

Some of the beautiful Birds in the area are Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Mallards, swallows, and Belted Belted Kingfishers

It is not unusual to see turtles swimming and sunning. Please be respectful of the wildlife.
