James (Randy) Fugate – Obituary and Assessment Call

James "Randolph" Fugate, "Randy" as known by all that loved him, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Kingsville, Texas at the age of 64. God broke the mold when he created Randy, as his parents J R Fugate and Charm Pogue Fugate joyously found out on December 19, 1950, when Randy was born in San Antonio, Texas. The family settled in Cotulla, Texas where Randy would go on to graduate from Cotulla High School in 1969. Cotulla, for Randy, would always hold a special place in his heart, as would the friendships he made there.

After high school, he attended Schreiner Presbyterian College on a track scholarship, Randy went on to finish his college education at Texas A&M, where he spent the first few weeks faithfully learning the Aggie War Hymn. This began Randy's long time dedication as a fan of the Texas Aggies. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Texas A&M University, he moved to Edinburg, Texas where he began his career as a Wildlife Biologist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Edinburg is not only where he started his life-long commitment to the TPWD, but also where by the way of a mutual friend, Randy was introduced to the love of his life June Turner.

Randy and June were married in 1980 and went on to experience a beautiful life together in Falfurrias, Texas. Randy was beyond passionate about his wife, his work, his community, his family, and his friends. Randy was an amazing person who influenced the lives of everyone around him, not only with his infectious personality, but with the selfless dedication, and unconditional love he showed. He will be greatly missed by so many. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law. Carl Dromgoole. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, June Fugate of Falfurrias, Texas; sister, Cindy Dromgoole of Mineola, Texas; niece, Syntha Pierce, and husband Jeff Pierce of Mineola, niece Liz Hayes and husband Eric Hayes of Fountain, Colorado; great nephew and niece, Carly and Davis Pierce of Mineola, and numerous cousins and friends.

His accomplishments include a 2012 Joe Kurz Excellence in Wildlife Management Award due to his efforts in turkey restoration. He held a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow from the Falfurrias Rotary Club. He worked on projects with the Cesar Kleberg Wildlife Institute. Randy was a member of the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society and had served on various committees through the years.

Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias, Texas. Funeral Services followed at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Falfurrias, Texas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Randy Fugate Memorial Fund at the First National Bank of Falfurrias - P.O. Box 678 Falfurrias, Texas 78355 (361) 325-2565.
