Action Land Acquisition – Bandera County Approximately 37 Acres at Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area August 21, 2025
I. Executive Summary: Staff requests authorization to acquire a 37-acre parcel to protect the viewshed of the Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area (SNA).
II. Discussion: Albert and Bessie Kronkosky SNA, located in Bandera and Kendall counties, was acquired in 2011 and totals approximately 3,700 acres. The SNA is currently under construction to add new facilities and trails. Staff prioritizes acquisition of adjacent properties from willing sellers to minimize operational and management conflicts and enhance the conservation of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department public lands. Staff recently located an adjacent 37-acre parcel that would help to secure a critical viewshed for the SNA.
III. Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:
“The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorizes the Executive Director to take all necessary steps to acquire from a willing seller approximately 37 acres in Bandera County adjacent to the Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area.”
