Learn to identify edible and medicinal plants found at Atlanta State Park!

  • Expect: Moderate 1-mile hike over hilly terrain. We will discuss the basics of foraging safety, plant guides, ethics; and will identify approximately 10 plants. Please note: While we may sample a few of the plants discussed, the purpose of this hike is to identify the plants and learn the basics of foraging.
  • When: We’ll begin promptly at 10AM and end at approximately 12PM.
  • Where: Meet at the Hickory Hollow Nature Trail. There is parking in the lot by the trailhead.
  • What to Bring: Appropriate footwear, water, pen and notebook (if you’d like to take notes). Don’t forget to put on sunblock and bug spray before you come out.
  • Cost and Fine Print: Program is included in park entry fees- $3 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free. Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on Atlanta State Park Facebook page and through Eventbrite. Unfortunately, we cannot re-schedule events cancelled due to weather.
  • Registration Information: REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Space is limited. Register by following the Eventbrite link below. This is the only way to register- please do not call or email the park for registration. **If you cannot make it to the program then you MUST cancel via Eventbrite. Please try to cancel a minimum of 2 days prior to the event so that we can open your registered spot for someone else. If you “no-show” to this program your name will automatically be moved to the waitlist on all future events which require registration.
