There's no better way to start the New Year than to get out and get going! Join us Tuesday, Jan. 1, for a brisk hike along the Fresno Divide Trail. Named for its geographical location on the divide between Fresno and Contrabando Creeks, this easy-to-moderate, 3-mile trail (6 miles round trip) will expose you to some of the most spectacular natural and historical landscapes in Big Bend Ranch State Park.

The Fresno Divide Trail is comprised of well-defined single-track with exposed rock surfaces and segments of old road. Along the way you will see stunning views of the Bofecillos Mountains, Fresno Creek, the Contrabando Dome, and the Flatirons of the Solitario.

We will meet at the West Contrabando Trailhead at 10:30 am and return to the trailhead for lunch around 1:30 pm.

To ensure good luck in the new year, the hike will be followed by a FREE meal of black-eyed peas, collard greens and corn bread compliments of Compadres del Rancho Grande – Friends of Big Bend Ranch State Park. Lunch will be at the West Contrabando Trailhead at 1:30.

The West Contrabando Trailhead is located approximately 6.5 miles west of the Barton Warnock Visitor Center and approximately 42 miles east of Fort Leaton State Historic Site along FM 170.

Day-use fees are waived for participants. Please stop by Fort Leaton State Historic Site or the Barton Warnock Visitor Center to get your promotional pass.
