Get certified! Become a bonafide angler with Bentsen State Park. Open to all ages.

Whether you’re a child or an adult, beginning anglers will enjoy this fun, hands-on, instructor-led training course. Learn about basic fishing skills such as tackle assembly, fishing knots, aquatic habitats & fishing regulations.

This indoor program with several stations will ensure a safe, fun experience for all and will help new anglers feel secure in their new-found skills. Participants will master at least two common fishing knots and will practice casting with a spincast rod-and-reel combo to learn proper technique. Students will also learn to identify freshwater game fish as well different types of baits or lures. Upon completing the course, students will receive a Basic Angler Certification and a fish recognition pin!

Basic Fishing for Beginners is limited, so reserve your spot today! Students must be 7 years old and up. Parents are encouraged to participate. Our program goal is to teach children and their families the basics of fishing and to increase participation in recreational fishing so youth and adults can be safe and ethical anglers and responsible stewards of aquatic resources.
