Solar Eclipse Watch Party
Sat, October 14, 2023
View a stellar daytime event during this near-total annular solar eclipse!
Texas will be experiencing not one but TWO rare solar eclipses in the near future. During the first, on October 14, 2023, Bentsen will have a view of more than 90% of an annular solar eclipse. The second, will be on April 8th, 2024 where there will be about 90% of a total solar eclipse seen from the park.
Join us during a watch party where we will discuss what exactly is happening, why it is so extraordinary, and how to safely see our closest star: the sun. The eclipse will start to be visible about 10:30am, peak about noon, and end about 1:30PM.
Safety Note: Even during an eclipse, DO NOT look directly into the sun without specialized protection. Regular sunglasses are NOT safe for sun viewing. Any equipment such as a camera, phone or telescope MUST be equipped with a solar filter. Unsafe viewing can risk severe eye injury and/or equipment damage.
- Bring: Weather appropriate clothing, water, snacks, and camp-chairs. It is recommended to bring a safe viewing option such as a pinhole viewer or ISO-12312-2 certified solar/eclipse glasses. The park will have some glasses available for purchase but supplies may be limited.
