Monsoon Magic Bird Hike

9:00a to 10:00a
Fri, August 19, 2022

Witness the magical bird diversity created by afternoon rains and the beginnings of fall migration by joining a ranger on a guided hike to a lush oasis in the desert.

A rapid greening follows the afternoon rains, and many local birds delay nesting or nest a second time to take advantage of this short-term bounty. Mexican species often wander up from the south on the wet winds, while from the north come southbound migrants.

Join a ranger on a 1-mile hike and come view this special sample of birds visiting the park!

What to bring: Water, hat, sunscreen, hiking shoes, snacks, and binoculars if you have them.  If you are a new birder and don't have binoculars yet, just email us and we can have a pair set aside for you.

Meet: At the Ojito Adentro Trailhead, 8.5 miles east of Botella Junction on Casa Piedra Road.

Note: This trail requires crawling and rock scrambling. Pets are not allowed.

This program is subject to cancellation or relocation due to inclement weather or poor road conditions.

Cost: Free with park admission. Park admission is free with a Texas Parks Pass.
