Backyard Bird Count (Ranger Led & Self-Guided)

Join the Backyard Bird Count at Caddo Lake State Park to see, hear, and count birds all while enjoying the outdoors!

Accessibility: Parking will be available at Rec Hall Parking Lot. Restroom is available inside Rec Hall. Drinking water is available inside Rec Hall. Path to program is sidewalk, pavement, and rock steps. Program path consists of grass, pavement, sidewalk, and moderate terrain trails on hike (optional).

Please pick up a flyer sheet from the Front Office or Rec Hall for the complete schedule, rules, and instructions.

Program Expectations: Program will consist of locating, hearing, and spotting birds with our eyes/ears and binoculars/Merlin Bird ID. We will record this data using the phone application eBird. All data will be recorded by the ranger's eBird track during the "ranger led" portion. All self-guided is record by your own eBird track.

When: 

Ranger Led Programs:

Friday 8 - 10 a.m. & 1 - 3 p.m.

Saturday @ 9 - 11 a.m.

Self Guided:

Friday - Sunday @ All Day

Where: Day Use/Fire Pit Area

What to bring: 

  • Water
  • Sunscreen/Hat/Sunglasses
  • Bug Spray
  • Binoculars
  • Smartphone

Program is included in park entry fees- $4 per person ages 13 and older, 12 and under are free. No need to register, just show up! Programs are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced on Caddo Lake State Park Facebook page or you can call park headquarters.
