Join us for a hike and resource fair in honor of our veterans

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and 16 Texas State Parks will be hosting hikes to shed light on this issue, which affects many veterans and their loved ones. The Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck Hike, an annual event organized by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Veteran’s Liaison Nicole Mechler, allows families, friends and veterans to network and build a support system, as well as spread the word about veteran-specific mental health issues.

We invite everyone to join us on the Shoreline Trail tomorrow evening at Cedar Hill State Park for a candle-lit remembrance walk- all ability levels are welcome to participate. Although the event is not a fundraiser, veteran and military groups have collaborated with participating parks to provide resources on site.

When: Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 5:30 PM-8:00 PM
Where: Shoreline Trail
Bring: Water and a snack if you need one.
Cost: Free with $7 per person park entry fee or presentation of a Texas State Parks Pass or Veteran's Pass. Children 12 and under can enter the park for free.
Programs are subject to location changes, postponement, or cancellation due to weather. Check our Instagram or Facebook stories for the most up-to-date information on program details.
