Life in the Chihuahuan Desert is hard and has forced its inhabitants (humans, animals, plants) to adapt in fascinating ways. Come learn how on this fun hike.
Why do so many desert plants have spikes or thorns? How can javelina eat prickly pear? The desert is full of amazing adaptations. You will hear all about it on this 1.5-hour hike along Montezuma Quail Trail. This is a strenuous, 1-mile trail with a steep incline and decline. Hiking shoes/boots and trekking poles are recommended for those with mobility issues.
Meet: At the Emory Oak Wildlife Viewing Area
Bring: hiking shoes, water, hat, sunscreen
Cost: Free for campers or day users w/ permit - daily entrance fee is $6.00/adult, or free for the carload with Texas State Park Pass
