Become a Texas Parks and Wildlife Certified Angler Education Instructor

Pre-registration is required BEFORE the workshop. See pre-registration instructions below.

This free workshop is open to anyone 18 or older interested in learning and/or teaching fishing skills in their communities. No fishing experience or equipment needed. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Angler Education Program provides the curriculum, equipment (where available), materials and support to help volunteers successfully introduce youth and their families to fishing. Ideal for teachers, scout or youth group leaders, afterschool or camp staff and community volunteers. TEA-approved CPE credit available for teachers.

Pre-registration instructions - All steps must be completed to sign up.  

Step 1: Use a phone, tablet or computer and visit the link: Register for the TPWD “Angler Education Instructor Training Pending – statewide” Opportunity. Select the blue Sign-Up button

  • For new TPWD volunteers: click on the blue “Apply to become a volunteer” link at the bottom and follow the prompts to create a volunteer profile. Please remember to authorize and complete the Criminal Background Check section. Date of birth and Driver’s License number must be completed. 


  • For current TPWD volunteers: Enter your TPWD User ID and password and click on the blue  “Log In” button

Step 2: To complete registration, call or email the workshop leader with your TPWD Volunteer User ID, first and last name, and contact info. The workshop leader is Oscar Castillo at or (210) 643-3396
