The TPWD administered ATA Explore Bowhunting course will teach you how to teach bowhunting skills to your audiences. Additionally, you will learn how to design, build, run and expand your archery programs and Bowhunter Education programs. Excellent as a "next step" of archery or "outdoor adventure" program.

ATA Explore Bowhunting Instructor Training

This is NOT Bowhunter Education nor a course where you will learn how to bowhunt. Instead, it will teach you how to teach bowhunting skills to your audience. The TPWD administered ATA Explore Bowhunting course will teach you how to teach essential bowhunting skills to your audiences.  Additionally, you will learn how to design, build, run and expand archery programs and Bowhunter Education programs. The class is designed for formal educators, informal educators, parks and recreation professionals, outdoor educators, after school groups, community programs, clubs and social organizations. Once trained you will have access to all the loaner equipment you need to run these activities. The class covers:

  • Blind Building
  • Camouflage
  • Distance Estimation
  • Minimizing Impact
  • Natural History
  • Optics
  • Pattern Recognition/Interpretation
  • Planning
  • Stalking
  • Track Identification/Animal Sign
  • Determining and using Wind Direction
  • Adrenaline and its effect on archery
  • Shot Placement
  • Reading Arrows
  • Blood Trailing
  • Shooting Positions
  • Field Dressing
  • Bowhunting Equipment
  • Archery Range Setup and Safety
  • Borrowing and using TPWD Explore Bowhunting Equipment and other resources

You may bring your own bow and arrows with (only) field points or broadheads in original manufacturer's packaging or broadhead case (NOT affixed to arrows).  Your bow should be cased and may be kept in the class during the course.
