Basic Archery Instructor/Level 1 Certification (National Archery in the Schools Program/USA Archery)

Bring archery to your community or school by becoming a USA Archery Level 1 or NASP Basic Archery Instructor. You will become certified to set up and run a safe and efficient archery range and teach the basic steps of archery shooting success to audiences of all abilities and backgrounds. Pre-registration is required, see below.

The TPWD administered USA Archery Level 1 and NASP Basic Archery Instructor certification will teach you how to design, build, run and expand archery programs.

The USA A L1 class is designed for parks and recreation professionals, outdoor educators, after school groups, community programs, clubs and social organizations.  The NASP BAI is designed for formal educators working for or with ISDs, home schools and other educational institutions.

The class covers:

  • Range Setup and Safety
  • Equipment, Inspection and Repair
  • How to Outfit a Class with Equipment
  • Steps of Shooting, Drills, Activities and Games
  • Teaching The First Archery Class
  • Coaching Techniques
  • Creating a Program and Lesson Plans, Other Archery Programs and Grants
  • Adapted Archery, Equipment and Resources
  • Target-, Field- and 3D Archery Disciplines
  • Earning and Maintaining your Certification and Additional Certifications


To register for the USA A L1, first register with the TPWD  Volunteer Management System and sign up for the Community Archery Classes and Events in North Texas.  Then, email Immanuel Salas with what audience/organizations you currently work with and which training date you are interested in.

To register for the NASP BAI visit the schedule of NASP classes and register.  Be sure to verify the location and date you desire.
