Learn the Basics of fishing in a fun, free workshop with waterside fishing.

Bring the family to learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities.

The event is FREE, but pre-registration is REQUIRED. Persons age 17 and older must have a fishing license.

Youth and adults can learn the basics of fishing. Equipment and bait will be provided, or bring your own gear. Topics will include fishing equipment and tackle box basics, knot-tying, fishing rules and regulations, fish ID and habitat, angler ethics, proper fish handling techniques, water and boat safety, environmental stewardship, and some local tips, tricks and techniques to catch fish.

Bring a sack lunch, and a re-usable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, chairs; dress for the weather - wear a hat, sunglasses, comfortable clothes and shoes that will probably get wet and dirty. Adults must accompany children.

The event is hosted by Fishing's Future in partnership with Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF). The “Take Me Fishing-First Catch Centers” are events held at various locations throughout the state.
