First Catch Center Fishing Event

Adults and youth (ages 8+) can learn the basics of fishing.

Youth (ages 8+) and adults can learn the basics of fishing at this free event (pre-registration is required.)

Equipment and bait will be provided, or bring your own gear. Topics will include fishing equipment and tackle box basics, knot-tying, fishing rules and regulations, fish ID and habitat, angler ethics, proper fish handling techniques, water and boat safety, environmental stewardship, and some local tips, tricks and techniques to catch fish.

Bring a sack lunch, and a re-usable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, chairs; dress for the weather - wear a hat, sunglasses, comfortable clothes and shoes that will probably get wet and dirty. Adults must accompany children.

Persons age 17 and older must have a fishing license, purchase online

The event is hosted by Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature in partnership with Fishing's Future and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF). The “Take Me Fishing-First Catch Centers” are events held at various locations throughout the state.
