Free family friendly event to celebrate the Rainbow Trout stocking on the Llano River

WinterFisch is a FREE family-oriented recreational activity for Mason County residents and visitors during the slower winter months. TPWD Angler Education Volunteer Instructors will be on hand to provide fishing instruction. Additional activities include outdoor demonstrations, campfire with music, Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations, and onsite cooking of caught fish.

A total of 2,500 trout will be released in two phases, in early December and in late January as part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s statewide Winter Rainbow Trout stocking program. The WinterFisch trout fishing location is in Mason County, 8 miles south of the town of Mason at the James River Crossing of the Llano River (Highway 2389).  This site was chosen for its suitable trout habitat and also for its ease of public access.

Fishing regulations and license apply. Buy a one-day ($11) or full year license online and download the free Outdoor Annual regulations app.
