Cast Iron Cooking 101

Ever wondered why cast iron skillets, griddles, and Dutch ovens are still a thing? Might you be interested in learning how to use and properly care for cast iron cookware? Do you like cooking demonstrations followed by sweet treats? If you answered yes to any of those questions then join us out at Eisenhower State Park for Cast Iron Cooking 101!

This event is for novice cast iron cookers and seasoned veterans alike! Veteran Dutch oven cooks, please feel free to bring your equipment and experience and cook right along with us! 

Expect to:

  • Learn a little bit about the history of this traditional cookware 
  • Learn the basics of how to properly care for and use cast iron cookware 
  • Observe a cooking demonstration
  • Enjoy a sweet treat and maybe even swap some recipes or tips and tricks from our rangers or other veteran Dutch oven chefs.

Where and When:

  • On March 9th at 2:00 PM at the Fire Pit at Deer Haven Rec Hall.
  • On March 16th at 2:00 PM at the Cedar Hollow Pavilion.

What to bring: 

  • Camp chair, water, sunblock and/or bug spray
  • Personal eating utensils (reduce, reuse, recycle!) 



All programs are free with paid park admission, which is $5 per person 13 years of age and older. Outdoor programs are subject to cancellation due to weather.
