Navigating the Night Sky

7:00p to 8:15p
Sat, March 09, 2024
Addison Preston
(830) 685-3636

Learn about nature's nighttime navigators and tour some of our brightest stars and constellations (weather-dependent).

Join us for an introduction to nature's natural nighttime navigators, then spend some time looking up at the night sky as the park ranger points out commonly seen stars and constellations (weather permitting). Optional telescope viewing will follow the presentation if time and weather permits.

If you're new to the night sky or want to spend a relaxing evening under the stars, this program is for you!

Note: Please do not use cell phones or white lights once the program begins.

Meet: This program will take place at the bottom of the Gazebo steps.

Bring:

  • A camp chair, blanket, or pad to sit on (optional, but we will be on rocks)
  • Flashlight or headlamp (red light preferred; only used for getting back to your campsite/vehicle to save our night vision!)
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes
  • Water

Pets are allowed at this event but must remain on a 6ft max leash. If causing a disturbance to other guests or the program, you will be asked to leave.

This event is free with the purchase of a day pass or overnight camping permit. These can be reserved at TexasStateParks.ReserveAmerica.com. Adults 13+ are $8/person; children 12 and younger are free.

This event is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. For clouds only, we will host alternate nighttime activities. For rain or severe weather, this event will be cancelled. Stay up to date via our Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter accounts.
