A Family Legacy Reimagined: Descendant DuAnne Redus Revives and Responds to a Texas Frontier Classic
Austin, Texas. More than 150 years after its first publication, Five Years a Cavalryman by H. H. McConnell rides again. This time, it comes with a powerful and deeply personal 21st century response from his great-great-granddaughter, DuAnne Redus.
In this newly released volume, Redus weaves a contemporary narrative through a series of heartfelt letters to her ancestor. Reflecting on Texas’s frontier era and her own experiences as a fifth generation Texan, she explores the parallels between the rugged Reconstruction period and the state’s modern day challenges.
