Grab your boots! Grab your kid! Grab a Santa hat! Bake up your favorite cookies and bring some to share! Join other parents looking to spend quality time outdoors with their little ones. Reservations required; to reserve your spot, call the office at (915) 566-6441 Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Take some time to unplug, get outside, and get your “Vitamin N.” On this hike we will also get our "Vitamin CCC," Christmas, cookies, and good company by including a cookie swap with the hike. Don't forget your Santa hat!

Trail: Nature Walk (Tom Mays Unit) - approximately 0.75 mile

Difficulty Level: Easy . This short distance trail meanders through arroyos and hills to give a great introduction to desert plants and wildlife for kids, beginner hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The bird blind at the beginning of the trail is always a good spot for nature viewing!

Bring: Santa hats, sun protection, a suitable backpack or front carrier for your child, and sufficient water, favorite snacks, and comfortable clothes to keep you and your child warm, clean, dry, and full. This includes plenty of diapers and baby wipes!

Note: This trail is not accessible via stroller; if your child is not of an age to hike on their own for 1 mile, be sure to have a suitable backpack or front carrier for them to ride in.

Optional: binoculars, hiking stick, camera, and a map.

Fee: $8 for adults 13 years old and up; $3 for Texas State Park Pass holders, and $1 for children 12 and under.

Directions: We will meet at the Nature Walk trailhead

From Westside on I-10, take exit 6 & travel east towards the mountains for 3.8 miles. Park entrance will be on the left.
From Eastside on Hwy 54, take exit 29 towards Transmountain Rd, travel west 7-7.5 miles over/through the mountains. Park entrance will be on the right.
If using a GPS be sure to search for "Tom Mays Access Road," not "Franklin Mountains State Park."
