Memorial Day Nature Walk Trail

Celebrate Memorial Day in the beautiful Chihuahua desert on a guided hike with one of our park rangers or volunteers.

This is an easy 0.75-mile hike and is excellent for families with younger children, beginner hikers, or wildlife enthusiasts.

Reservations required; to reserve your spot, call the office at (915) 566-6441.

Bring: water, snacks, hiking boots/shoes, and comfortable clothes.

Optional: binoculars, hiking stick, camera, and a map.

Fee: $5 for adults 13 years old and up; $0 for Texas State Park Pass holders and children 12 years old or younger.

Meeting location: The Nature Walk trailhead. As you enter the Tom Mays unit of Franklin Mountains State Park, stop and get you pass at the Visitor center, then continue down the road just past the Maintenance yard. It will be the first parking lot on the Right hand side after the Maintenance sheds. If you pass the second speed bump, you just missed it.

Directions:

  • From Westside on I-10, take exit 6 & travel east towards mountains for 3.8 miles. Park entrance will be on the left. 
  • From Eastside on Hwy 54, take exit 29 towards Transmountain Rd, travel west 7-7.5 miles over/through the mountains. Park entrance will be on the right.
  • If using a GPS be sure to search for "Tom Mays Access Road," not "Franklin Mountains State Park."
