Pollinator BioBlitz - Nature Walk

11:00a to 12:00p
Sun, October 23, 2022
(915) 444-9121

Get some last-minute pollinator identifications in before the Pollinator BioBlitz is over this year!

The pollinator BioBlitz is a fun competition to see who can identify the most number of pollinators, and this year the dates are from October 7th through October 23rd.

This will be a short easy walk along the Nature Walk trail to slip in a few more identifications before the contest ends. We will be talking about all the different plants that depend on all sorts of animals to pollinate their flowers as well as looking for the insects and other critters who do the pollinating.

Difficulty Level: Easy. This short distance trail meanders through arroyos and hills to give a great introduction to desert plants and wildlife for kids, beginner hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The bird blind at the beginning of the trail is always a good spot for nature viewing!

Fee: $8.00 per adult 13 years of age and older, $3.00 for Texas State Park Pass holders, and $1.00 for children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Bring: water, snacks, hiking boots/shoes, and comfortable clothes.

Optional: binoculars, hiking stick, camera, and a map.

Meeting Location: The Nature Walk trailhead. As you enter the Tom Mays unit of Franklin Mountains State Park, stop and get you pass at the Visitor center, then continue down the road just past the Maintenance yard. It will be the first parking lot on the Right hand side after the Maintenance sheds. If you pass the second speedbump, you just missed it.

From Westside on I-10, take exit 6 & travel east towards mountains for 3.8 miles. Park entrance will be on the left.

From Eastside on Hwy 54, take exit 29 towards Transmountain Rd, travel west 7-7.5 miles through the mountains. Park entrance will be on the right.

If using a GPS be sure to search for "2900 Tom Mays Access Road," not "Franklin Mountains State Park."
