Take a self-led walk through notable moments of African American history on Galveston Island State Park.
Galveston Island has a rich African American history. In honor of Black History Month, take a walk through the coastal prairie along the Heritage Trail (0.3 miles) to learn about those who lived here and shaped this island.
This is a self-led walk. This trail has very little shade, so hats and sunglasses are highly recommended.
- Bring: Sunscreen, bug spray, water, weather appropriate clothing and comfortable hiking shoes.
- Where: Heritage Trail, parking located in front of Nature Center
- Cost: Entry fee is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 & under. Park entry free with a State Parks Pass.
