Discover the beaches and dunes while hunting for island treasures.

Beach Exploration hikes start at the park's Nature Center, located on the bay side of the park, close to the main highway. We begin with a brief orientation, shell identification, and restroom break before driving to the day-use beach to view special habitats leading to the sandy beach. Be prepared for sun, surf, and great hands-on learning!

Get a close-up look at the many critters and birds that inhabit the sand, surf and seaweed. This Saturday tour includes seining, searching for ghost crabs, and beach combing under the guidance of Friends of Galveston Island State Park (FoGISP) volunteers.

What to bring:

  • Park permit (received at the park HQ, located on the beach side of the park.)
  • Clothes and shoes to get wet (optional)
  • Water bottle
  • Camera (for those great ocean shots)
