First Day Hike & 2nd Annual Polar Bear Plunge

Start the year off right with an invigorating hike in the hills followed by a rejuvenating plunge into the Frio River!

Join Ranger Shaylee on a guided hike up to Crystal Cave! If you are not joining us on the hike, but want to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge meet us at the dam in the day-use area (near the boat house) at 1:15. We will make the plunge at 1:30 pm! 

Meet: Pavilion in Oakmont camping area (where the dance is in the summer). 

When: leaving the pavilion at 10 am 

Difficulty: Moderate. The Crystal Cave & Bridges trails do have steep sections with loose crushed limestone.

Duration: The hike is roughly 1.5 miles round trip and will take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.

What to Bring: Please bring water, wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. If you are participating in the polar bear plunge, please bring a towel and dry clothes to change into afterwards.
