A favorite winter drink has a surprising history! Learn how hot chocolate evolved from a cold and bitter drink into the sweet treat we enjoy today.

The first chocolate drink was a far cry from the smooth, hot beverage we enjoy today. When Spanish explorers first met the Aztecs and the Mayans of Mesoamerica, they were introduced to a highly prized drink, xocolatl, made with chili peppers and cacao beans. This drink, often reserved for royalty and warriors, was brought back to Europe and a food revolution was born. Learn about the evolution of hot chocolate and taste an ancient recipe reminiscent of the very first chocolate drinks!

Program takes place on the mission porch.

Program is free with park entrance ($4 per person, free for kids 12 & under).
